Here’s my observations on the city of Lagos, Nigeria: the varied colours, pure chaos and great energy. The hustle and bustle of the streets in Lagos takes your breath away. Everything is sold on the street…they’re creative, ingenious, opportunist entrepreneurs!
No market stall….not a problem - sell from a wheelbarrow!
Too many items to carry and sell…no problem - put them on a tray then place on your head!
Stuck in traffic, can’t get to the market…no problem - street vendors will set up at known traffic gridlocks. These are some of the examples of the ingenuity of the street traders I witnessed in Lagos. Yes improvements are required….driving can be a scary experience! Also you say a prayer if you try to cross the road (no proper traffic controlled zebra crossings/traffic lights, right of way here!)
But what I was interested in was the thoughts and hopes of normal Nigerian people. They told me day to day is a struggle…it will take time but they have hope for the future. Here are a few moments I captured on the street.
